High Idle CPU Temperature???

I have a stock motherboard and a stock AMD A10 CPU. I installed a hyper evo 212 cpu cooler but my idle temperatures are around 50 Celsius. Is this normal? I just reapplied new thermal paste and the temps are still the same.

Solution
Well that's better. The Thermal Margin is saying that you are 70 from the thermal limit. AMD's temps are notoriously inaccurate. However the thermal margin is accurate and the one you should look to. Have a look at this:

AMD Temps

So you're OK. If you were to stress test your APU, you'd find that the Thermal Margin would get smaller as the temperature came closer to the thermal limit.

Agreed, it's definitely not normal those are max load temps not idle temps. Some product reviews can attest to this:

http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/cpu_cooler_roundup_2013_q1_review,8.html

Some things that you can check, apologies in advance if I'm hashing over prior knowledge:

1. Confirm that your idle state really is idle and there are no background processes running

2. Try re-applying even more thermal paste than you did before but also ensuring you don't apply too much that it starts to ooze out of the sides when installed. Also avoid creating air pockets when installing the cooler as it'll create inefficiencies in the cooling process

3. Check that the CPU fan power header is firmly installed

4. Check if the CPU fan speed is running at a reasonable RPM for your idle state

If you're confident of all of the above then the problem most likely lies with the cooler unit.

Idle temps are always going to be inaccurate.

Also the only monitor you can trust with an fm2/+ chip is amd overdrive & its thermal margin.

Literally every third party monitoring app will throw false readings at you.

Idle thermal margin should be 40c+ , if it is then your temps are fine.

Thanks for the replies guys. I did all of the suggestions and I realized that 2 out of the 4 mounting screws for the hyper evo 212 are loose. Is this the reason I have such high idle cpu temperatures?

Even though I realize that the two screws are not completely tightened, I feel as thought the hyper 212 evo is firmly seated on the CPU. As long on the silver block thing on the bottom of the hyper 212 evo is touching the CPU, shouldn't that be effective enough? I am new with this type of cpu cooler so excuse for my lack of knowledge.

I actually just changed it so there would be two diagonal screws that would be making good contact. It seems like that would work but I guess not due to my idle cpu temperatures.

That's the weird part. Two of them will not tighten all the way on the standoff screw. The two that won't tighten look exactly like the other two that do tighten all the way, so I'm really confused as to why the other two do not tighten all way around.

I had another hyper 212 evo and i used the standoffs from that one on my current setup. The CPU cooler is now secure but my cpu temperatures are still the same. Around 50C at idle. I'm really confused because I thought this would fix it for sure :(
