Will upgrade from Ivy Bridge i3-3240 to Skylake i5-6600K with DDR4 worth it?

I plan to upgrade my 3 year old GIGABYTE Z77M-D3H PC to accommodate my new ASUS VGA GTX960 and DDR4 technology. I'm gonna need new mobo (I plan for ASUS Z170 with overclock ability) and a new DDR4 RAM.

Is it worth it to upgrade now ? Will the performance increase noticeable ? Or should I wait a little longer until 7th generation comes along this December ?
I won't upgrade if the performance increase aren't that impressive

Intel usually releases 2 generations on the same platform(tick/tock) so 7th gen should be LGA1151 and 8th gen should be on a new socket. I don't have time to verify this right now though.

I really think ddr3 will be viable for a few more years. I would seriously grab a used i5 3570k or 3770k for now. It would be a huge performance boost over your i3.

If the performace is not that great, then I want to ask wheter the DDR4 will be a big thing int he future, like DDR2 to DDR3. I bought an AMD PC with DDR2 before, 6 month before DDR 3 came, and I had to stick with my PC for 4 years before I could afford another one. So I don't want to repeat the same mistake again.

Memory speeds just don't make very much difference in most tasks. There are always exceptions, but gaming is not one. I think grabbing one of the Ivy Bridge K chips mentioned above now would last you another couple of years, and you could save up to buy a whole new system then. Surely there will be some new hot stuff released by then. The difference between Haswell and Skylake is so small, and Skylake is so expensive, I would still buy Haswell if I were to build a new system right now.

I will use it for gaming mostly and I currently find my i3-3240 is no longer adequate so I want to upgrade and I want to make it last at least for next couple years or more. I usually want to upgrade to i7-3770k but since I can't find that processor in my town, I'm considering to upgrade my motherboard altogether.

Will DDR3 gets replaced by DDR4 in the near future? and will Intel 7/8th generation CPU support LGA1151 ?

It's disappointing that Intel no longer make a big leap in processor tech, I remember how they made my AMD Athlon looks so obsolete with their i3/i5.
