Hello everyone,

I just got a new MSI Gaming 990FXA motherboard and a used FX-6350 that apperently worked,
i got it all plugged in and fired her up but got a black screen, no boot no beeps, nothing
the monitor wouldn't even leave power save mode.

I tried using only two ram modules, then only one with no change, then i threw in my old Athlon II X3 and she fired up and i got her to bios.

IS it possible i missed something when connecting or is that cpu just trash?

Like with the 6 and 8 cores am i supposed to use a full 8 pin cpu power connector or does it matter if i use the 4 pin?

I'm guessing the CPU is trash.

Any thoughts would be really helpful.

Yeah i tried the 12v 8 pin EPS connecter with no such luck, i ended up taking it back and after a long talk with the tech guy there we both came to the same conclusion that the CPU was dead.

So i got my money back and went to another store and got a brand new shiny FX-6300 95w, threw her in and bam she fired up, only issue now is that i gotta re install the OS because it really didn't like it, everytime i tried to open a program it stalled and and i killed the Consent for Authorization in task manager. pretty much nothing in the OS worked lol.

So now i got to re install and then re DL about 190GB of games and stuff i had on there.

Yeah the Althlon came out of a AM3/AM3+ ASRock 770iCafe board, my power supply is the Antec Signature SG850w,
it has a 4 Pin 12v ATX connector and a 8 pin EPS connector, now according to my knowledge the 8 pin EPS will not work for ATX motherboards right?

But will the 4 pin 12v ATX power the FX-6350 125w 3.9Ghz cpu?

Is this a connector issue or is the cpu dead?
