As of right now I have an intel i5 4690k in my gaming/streaming pc. I use OBS to broadcast online and it uses around 10-20% of my cpu. Games like H1Z1, CS:GO, Fallout, etc use about 60% or above.
Will getting an intel i7 4790k help my experience to stream/game without killing my CPU?

specs: Asus Z97-A Motherboard
nvidia gtx 960 4gb Graphics card
H100i liquid Cooler
750W PSU

Thank you in advance!!!:D

@Ricardo, What is your power supply's manufacturer and model #? CS:GO should be fine on your existing setup. H1Z1 will benefit most from a GPU upgrade. Fallout 4 will benefit most from a CPU and GPU upgrade. OBS will benefit from a CPU upgrade.

What I would do:

* buy i7-4790k; $339.99 on NewEgg, and $299.99 at Micro Center (local pickup)
* buy EVGA b-stock (factory recertified) GTX 970 FTW; temporarily out of stock as of 2 days ago but they sell for $249

* sell i5-4690k; on Ebay they are selling for about $150-$200
* sell GTX 960; on Ebay they are selling for about $150-$175

Bethesda has a habit of making great open world games that are just horribly optimized ports. Fallout 4 reminds me a lot of Skyrim for that, great game, horrible optimization. Hopefully they will get their act together for the next Elder Scroll game, but I wouldn't hold out too much hope, it will probably be an amazing game with crap optimization / coding.

yeah the mods have slowed it down so now i only keep basic mods that i need and not want. What do you mean by your first sentence?

Intel processors are pretty much - excuse the term - "idiot proof" to overclock. There are a ton of online tutorials that can walk you though the simple process, all you have to do is Google i5-4690K overclocking guide and you will have dozens to choose your favorite from.

He's running modified / optimized texture mods that can easily be found on Fallout 4 Nexus. Some of the modified textures load much better than the standard textures and can improve to greatly improve performance. Just look at the comments section of the mod and see how many people have endorsed it. A texture mod that has been highly endorsed can greatly improve your in game experience.

* I didn't know what vendor your GTX 960 was from, so I didn't include it in the Ebay query

Conclusion: If you follow all steps above, your upgrade will in essence cost you between $175 - $250. That's what I would do.
