How many PCI lanes do i need

Im thinking of doing a 2 way SLI build with 2 980 tis and a pcie ssd. would the 16 lanes of the 6700k be enough?

If you are buying a 6700k, you should be purchasing a Z170 motherboard which has 20 PCIe lanes. For SLI, each GPU needs 8 lanes. So you'll need more than 16 lanes for a M.2 SSD with two GPUs. The Z170 solves that problem.

So would the PCIe ssd be running of the chipset and not the cpu pci lanes?

there are 16 lanes on the CPU,which uses the first two PCI-e x16 slots on your Z170 motherboard as 16x/0x or 8x/8x for graphics cards, either solo or SLI/Crossfire. then there are 26 additional lanes allocated by the motherboard as x4 and x1 slots, your SATA and USB ports. an M2 SSD eats two SATA ports
