Hello,

I am trying to remove the watercooled heatsink on my motherboard so that I can remove the CPU and look for bent pins or any dust (because no matter what I do only half of my ram is usable, and this is the last thing I can possibly think of, have tried just about everything I can think of except this)

I just want to know if I can unscrew it from the motherboard and temporarily lift it up to take out the CPU and inspect the pins, If I unscrew it water wont pour out of it on the motherboard right :p? I dont think I need to drain the water or anything to simply lift it off for a few minutes to inspect it) but I would rather be safe than sorry. I have uploaded pictures including PC specs. Thanks!!

Simply unscrew the four screws that clamp the Aio water cooler onto your cpu.

As for the problem with the memory I noted it states it is in single channel memory mode.
With some motherboards you have to take note on the capacity of each memory stick you fit into each memory slot of the board.

Each memory slot can only address a set size or capacity of module any ram above what it states will simply be ignored due to how the memory controller works.

If it is a single 16Gb memory stick you have in one slot of your motherboard then it is why not all of it can be used even if it states the fix size of memory populating the memory stick.

It would suggest that your motherboard can only address a maximum capacity of 8Gb per memory...
You can easily remove the heat sink part from on top of the CPU and no water will not run out. Just unscrew the heat sink from on top of the processor, and either give it a slight easy twist or if needed slip a razor between the heat sink and processor and gently separate them. Most of the time a very gentle twist will separate the heat sink from the processor easily. Make sure to clean both the processor and heat sink of old thermal paste with rubbing alcohol and use the pea method to remount your heat sink when done. You put a very small pea sized dot (of thermal compound of your choosing - I like MX-4) in the center of your processor and use an old credit card to spread a very thin layer over your entire processor, then remount your heat sink.

Its simple m8. It wont leak, just unscrew the Bracket holding the Pump to the board and the with a slight twist the PUMP/CPU BLOCK should come off.

It would suggest that your motherboard can only address a maximum capacity of 8Gb per memory module, and depending on how many slots on the board either a maximum capacity with two of 16gb or with four memory slots of 32Gb maximum.
Each being no more than 8Gb in memory population.

If you look on the website of the brand maker of the mobo you have and its model number then you will see the maximum stated capacity of ram module you can fit per memory slot.

It is not a bent pin on your cpu causing the problem but the memory controller of the motherboard limiting the capacity of each memory stick in each memory slot Crazysealions.

If you want 16Gb of memory you will have to replace the single 16Gb module for two 8Gb modules and run them in dual channel memory mode. You will then have use of the full 16GB.

Hello,

Thanks for the help, I managed to get the cooler off without any trouble, I took out the CPU and there was a bent pin, I straightened it very quickly, put it back in and now all my ram is usable! (it was actually 4gb per slot) , Cant believe it was a bent pin!! Very happy it works now :)
