If anyone can give me a couple of hints and or tips as to what I could get without upgrading the Power Supply that'd be appreciated.

What exact PSU was it that didn't work? I would actually buy a good PSU before spending all the budget on a GPU, and since you can get the 770, it's definitely worth getting a new, good PSU.
