Hello,

Tried overclocking my 4770K '( only cpu, not my ram) and when I booted, I got a black screen, while my pc was still running.

I took out the mobo battery for a few minutes and it reset fine, but now i'm wondering what I could've done wrong.
I used this guide ( without changing any ram settings, like i said).

My rig:
4770K
Win 8.1
8gb 1333mhz ram
R9 290 TRI-x 4G

Thanks!

Solution
Looking at reviews for this set, "cheap" and "simple" are two very common adjectives used.

This ram isn't rated to run any faster than 1333 mhz, so I don't think you can expect this set to be good for any kind of profitable overclocking.

Hi, thanks for your reply.

Ive been googling but cant really find any elaboration about your explanation. Can you provide a link so I can read up?

The 'best solution' says you don't need faster ram when oc'ing a cpu anymore. It says higher ram speeds may negatively impact the oc, even!

It says you must choose when overclocking your CPU, you can either overclock your CPU at a high speed at the sacrifice of RAM speed, or overclock your RAM at the sacrifice of CPU speed (there is an inverse relationship)

You have yet to list which RAM you are using as well. You probably have really bad RAM.

I have two Corsair ValueSelect 4GB DDR3-1333 CL9

Should be good enough to at least overclock that 4770k a little, right?

My cpu core voltage is set to auto ( 1.080v) is that what you mean?
thats non overclocked

In CPU-z my core voltage is running between 0.200 and 0.900. Not sure what to make of it

I believe when its set to auto that your v-core should ramp up when you need it to.

You can set it to manual mode and adjust it to somewhere below 1.3 to start off, it should be safe. That should allow you to keep your overclock stable.
