Seems my GPU is failing

While gaming computer screen goes black. Computer is still on. Getting a temp reading on my CPU sitting at 42*C from the boards LED read out. Have to reset the pc to get it to give me a display again. Once I do that occasionally it will pop a screen saying some bios settings have failed and to reset to default. I do that and same thing still happens. I doubt its anything but my GPU because it only does it while I'm gaming. I do not have an OC on the CPU and the build is about 2-3 weeks old.

When GPU fan is ramped up it makes a sound I can't really explain. Sounds mechanical though.

Any help would be appreciated. Currently have GPU unhooked using integrated graphics.

Solution
ok try disabling turbo and under-clocking the cpu and removing all unnecessary devices. this could still be a issue with a failing psu.

To add also that I lose audio as well. Computer just goes silent except for the fans are still humming. And this is a recent problem happening more when playing on Paragons OT9.

Case: NZXT H440
Mobo: MSI Z97 Gaming 5
CPU: i5-4690K
Cooler: CM Hyper 212 EVO (2 Fans Push/Pull)
Ram: EVGA 16GB DDR3 1866
GPU: Asus STRIX R9 380 4GOC
SSD: OCZ Trion 120 HDD:
WD Blue 1TB
PSU: EVGA NEX750B

I went into bios and turned all "boost" stuff off even though none of it had to do with GPU. Also cranked fan speeds up on CPU and Case.

your symptoms are too vague. do you get a minidump from windows? typically when a gpu is failing your get a crashed video card driver which should leave some sort of event log entry.

black screens with no windows logs are typically power related; especially if a reboot happens with it.

that said since your symptoms are so vague i can only take a shot in the dark and tell you it SOUNDS like it's either the power supply, motherboard or gpu. My gut is telling me it might be the motherboard based on the warnings you're getting about bios settings.

OK. I am going to lay everything out. I want to make sure when I go to Microcenter today I am replacing only what needs to be replaced.

I can't OC my CPU period. Everytime I do, the PC freezes and I have to go back into bios and reset to default. I mean it freezes before it even gets to windows or 10-20 seconds after I get into windows. If it doesn't freeze it will toss me a windows dump message and reboot. And thats with the 1.25 at the core and only OCing to 4.0 which is only .1 above turbo boost. I have never had good luck with OCing so I chalked it up to my luck.

Random black screens with audio loss. I get no error messages or dump screens. I can say that when this happens, it seems the GPU fans stop spinning. The power light on the GPU stays on. My 2nd monitor also flashed a "shredded" screen as I call it. Top half of screen was black and red striped while the bottom half was normal. After monitor flashed a few times the screen showed fine.

Thats as detailed as I can get.

I disabled all of that earlier. CPU sitting at 3.5ghz which is stock. Only other device on computer is a USB DVD Drive that is only hooked up when I need it. With everything at stock speeds except GPU everything seems stable. Seems that once I try to push it at all, even the slightest, it fails.

Update. After I was stable on what I did above. I decided to hook my secondary monitor back up. Played 2 games and half way through the 2nd one, its did it again. So is it the PSU or the GPU?

No error messages....just screen froze, then black screen.

After racking my brain to figure out what was causing it. I decided to play different games. Pushing them with higher settings. Come to find out, it was actually ONE game that was giving me the business but everything I did to try and fix the one game made the other games crash. I have contacted the game devs and they are looking into it. Thanks everyone!
