no 5.1 sound with Verizon Fios

We had 5.1 sound just fine with digital optical cable going from Verizon box to Samsung HT system. Now we upgraded the Verizon box and there's no 5.1. Everything else works, and is the same as with the old box. I get 5.1 sound from apps on the HT system. Connections are tight and the cables are working. Can anybody help?

Thanks, yes, there is such a setting, and it is set to surround. This is the second upgraded DVR/Satellite Box from Verizon; both have the same problem. The set top box we had earlier - with the more limited DVR options and less hard disk room - did not have the problem when set up exactly the same way
