I have a Lenovo G510 i5 with Windows 10. Original HDD 1BT was swapped out for an SSD 256MB and HDD was loaded in the DVD bay as an add on disk. UEFI Bios
Problem: Since around 2-3 months i have noticed that after running for some time the HDD gets 'removed' and I get this message on the Intel RST. SATA disk removed. Also boot up seems to be taking really long now in spite of an SSD being installed...much slower than before..Typically if i shut down the power completely(remove battery) the PC restarts and HDD is visible again.. Have run Seatools and disc health is good. Also SSD runs fine..no issues..
any thoughts of why this is happening? If i remember correctly this all started after a software update..Any thoughts on which direction I should investigate?

Well you have a pattern, i.e., "that after running for some time the HDD gets 'removed'".

Next time you boot up your system open the Even Viewer logs and look for errors, warnings, messages regarding the HDD drive in question.

May take some peeking about but see what you can find. You may immediately notice some related events or if not at least see what is happening.

Then check the logs again immediately after the "removal" happens. May not catch it the first time or two but as you become familar with the logs you will be more likely to catch something that is not normal.

Right-click any log entries of interest and more details will be provided.

Could be a heat related problem so make sure that cooling and ventilation is as it should be.

Eh, accidentally clicked the -1 button sorry lel.
Also OP check the SATA cables to see if they are connected correctly, and use HWMonitor to check the HDD temperatures.

A. What kind of software update ? This is a particular problem w/ Win10 which likes to install HW drivers

1. Never let Windows Update install hardware drivers.
2. So a system backup before any hardware driver update.
3. Use only drivers from the manufacturers web site.

Suggest going to manufacturers web site and installing all SATA related drivers.

B. Remove all SATA data and power cables.

1. Reseat power cable and connect SSD data cable to lowest numbered SATA port; boot and shut down
2. Connect HD data cable to 2nd lowest numbered SATA port; boot and shut down
3. Continue if have extra HDs
4. Connect Optical data cable to highest numbered Intel SATA port; boot and shut down
5. Reboot and check to insure boot order is as listed above

I checked the logs....and i see three different types of warning messages codes 129, 153 and 157..
129 Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort0, was issued by iaStorA
157 Disk1 has been surprise removed issued by disk
153 references io site on disk1
Have installed HW Monitor.. what should the max temperatures be for the core and discs right now its 47/51 degrees centigrate for the cores/package and 43 for the SSD

There was a Windows10 update. I have already gone to Lenovo site earlier and updated the driver last updated version was released July/2015 before the Win10 update since I have had the problem. Just to be sure have reinstalled the driver again today.
