I already have a gtx 970 and a EVGA power supply (but its only 500 watts so may not be enough).

Basically I want a CPU that can be overclocked (looking at i5 6600k or i7 6700k), a mobo that can support at least 3 USB 3.0 slots and possibly SLI, something that is easy to upgrade onto in the future if i decide to. I plan to get oculus rift.

And also I don't know how much better DDR4 ram is than DDR3 but i should probably go for mobo that has DDR4 support right?

Can anyone recommend anything that fits what I want? This will be my first PC to build, and ideally i want to spend another 400-500 to make it work (the 800 in the title includes the 300 i spent on the gtx already).

I'd really appreciate it! Thank you

Solution
No problem on the i7. A 120 GB SSD would be plenty if you have an HDD for your storage.

CPU: Intel Core i5-6600K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($244.78 @ OutletPC)
CPU Cooler: CRYORIG H7 49.0 CFM CPU Cooler ($34.50 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z170XP-SLI ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($125.99 @ Micro Center)
Memory: G.Skill NT Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-2400 Memory ($34.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($86.99 @ Amazon)
Case: Corsair SPEC-01 RED ATX Mid Tower Case ($39.99 @ Micro Center)
Power Supply: EVGA 650W 80+ Gold...
3D takes a lot more GPU power than regular rendering. if you're planning on running VR with the Occulus through a 970 than you you will have to tone down your settings dramatically. you may want to wait a couple years and/or sell the 970 and upgrade before going that route.

DDR4 isn't that huge of an increase from DDR3 but the Z170 platform itself and the new 6000 series CPUs are very nice. since you're budget is kind of low i would go i5.
motherboard: just find one with good ratings and all SATA, USB, etc connections you need and maybe a couple to spare for future additions.
PSU: something from tier 1 or 2 that fits your power needs - http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html

Thank you both for the replies!

I will probably get this then, because I'm sick of looking around lol. What would you recommend for a case and also for a SSD? I don't mind to spend a little bit more. And also with this mobo, if i decide to get an i7 cpu in the future, can it support it??

Thanks so much!!

Oh last question.. Theres no way I could use my 500 watt evgo PSU right?

I just got it off amazon and think i could still return it if i want to. But if its enough power id like to use it.

i've used quite a few SSDs over the last couple years and have still gotten the best benchmarks from Samsung. there may be some higher priced "better" options out there but nothing that would actually effect real world usage scenarios.
HDs the Western Digital Blacks are still some of the best around. really any WD 7200rpm should be good for software, and their Blue series are great for storage, backups, etc.

cases are more of a personal preference thing with so much to choose from now. if you have a system color scheme you are putting together or a certain amount of space on your desk, etc there is tons to choose from. just take a browse through Newegg or something similar and come back with any questions.
the last 2 i have used were Corsair; 600T & 500R. both were very nice and very well cooled with stock setups. i really like the 500R i'm still using and it has nice customization options for liquid cooling and/or extra fans.

Nvidia states the system power for a 970 should be at least 500w. then you have to account for any other devices, drives, fans, ect.

Do you mean gtx970 wont be able to support oculus? What if i decided to get another in the future and used 2?

When i looked up oculus requirements, it said a gtx 970 would work. U dont think so?

never said it won't work. but "working" and getting good frame rates at good resolutions with decent ingame settings are different.
adding a second would of course help.

Can anyone recommend a good wireless card with this build that will connect to 5ghz networks?

Also i prefer to order everything from 1 merchant, and amazon does not have CRYORIG H7 49.0 CFM CPU Cooler in stock. Is there another one I could use that would also fit?
