F4235 printer, vista, word 2007 was working fine till 2 days ago. Now will print test page, anything off the internet but no Word docs. Test said previous error pen in right chute became stuck cold during pacing. Current error none. Have checked right printer selected, reinstalled drivers, read everything I can find - please help.

Solution
The process is probably similar to the instructions in the following link:

http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01643079

Google words "F4235 HP printhead replacement" and try other variations.

Lots of "junk" sites out there that seem to offer solutions but most are just trying to get money from you with regards to cartridges and cleaning kits that you do not need. One site offered "repair manuals" but the fine print pretty much negated any legitimate value.

Look at the inside of your printer and compare to the link above. Otherwise do some additional searches and maybe the information for a closer model will be found.

Or someone may be able to post a known link that they have already found.

No to Notepad. I pressed the power and tapped the cancel key and got a complicated page of letters and numbers the third line said "Current error: None" the 4th line said "Previous error: Pen in right chute became stuck cold during pacing"

Are you using real HP ink cartridges, 3rd party "clones", or refills?

Poked about HP's website for a few minutes.

Found the following somewhat lengthy procedures that address a variety of problems.

Could find something in one of the procedures that will free up the "pen in right chute". Maybe just some gummy/sticky ink residue.

Cleaning the carriage would be worth a try.

Thanks have saved link as bookmark but the ink is working and will print test pages and internet materials. The test page current error said none. Blank pages result from using the copy function or trying to print from Word or Notepad. I just printed an article off the internet - it is something to do with files/programs on my pc and using the printer copier. Could it be that the HP updates are incompatible with my vista and older version of word?

Could be that an update is involved. However, I would expect to see more postings about such a problem especially at HP's website.

Make a copy of one of the word documents that does not print. Go into that copy and start stripping out the document's formatting to see if there is some corrupted PLC making the printer believe there is an error.

Do you have another computer with Word documents that you could try printing?

Try printing word documents from another source. Then try printing a copy of one of your documents from the same source.

Do the reverse: copy a known printable word document from another source to you system and see if it will print.

Need to narrow down to printer, computer, word, or document(s).

Tedious, but be methodical and keep notes - hopefully something will turn up.

Does greyscale ink come from the color cartridge? It will print color documents in greyscale or color and black ink area in printer was full of ink mess. I think refilled cartridges may have caused the problem and cannot figure out how to remove printhead to clean - does anyone know how to do this on F4235. Thanks
