Hi,

I am upgrading my system and looking for some advice for some of the parts, mainly processor and motherboard, I have included a link to a build below, the power supply, graphics card and RAM I already have (I don't mind upgrading the ram if needed) but the main question I have about is the i5 and motherboard.

http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/y8TnWZ

I don't know which to get, i5 6600 or 6600k, I'm not really sure what the differences are apart from the 6600k can be overclocked which I was sort of leaning towards as I was thinking it might be worth overclocking in like 1yr / 2yrs time for the extra performance boost?

Any advice is welcome, thanks in advance

Well, the i5 6600k is easy to overclock, but you will need a z series board to do so, though someone will point out that some current MB's are capable of overclocking non-K chips at this time outside of Intel's intention. This loophole may be closed off in the future, though, especially if you ever need to update your MB bios.

i dont think unless you are doing something serious you are going to need to overclock within a year unless you are going to need that power now. the 6500 should be fine. but if youre going to bother upgrading the mb and go skylake why mess with ddr3?? the b150 cant even overclock only the z170 afaik. go z170 ot h170. h110 only has 6pci express lanes. the non k oc route was supposed to be changed by now. i think most bioses have been updated.

6500. the 6600 doesnt really add any speed and costs 10% more. take the 15-20 you save switching from 6600 to 6500 and put it in a mb with enough pci lanes you can upgrade to an nvme drive later and youll notice a much bigger difference.

Does an NVMe drive help with game play, or just with loading the game? I can't find any links showing a benefit. For the 10% difference in cost, it may be worth preserving your possibility to overclock. To go from 3.2GHz to 4.5GHz is a big jump.
