Fast internet speed, but slow internet

Starting last week, my internet significantly dropped in performance. I still get 5mb/s when doing a speed test, (that's what I've always got)... When I'm downloading something, (I've tried many different downloads, and many different web browsers) I'm only getting 15-20kb/s download speed. The odd thing is, when I'm doing an update on Steam or downloading a new game, I get 600kb/s. Youtube videos load quick as well. But as soon as I join an online game, or try to download something, my ping is EXTREMELY high and fluctuates rapidly. I have tried both a wireless and wired connection. I have called my ISP, I have ran malwarebytes/avast, but to no avail. :(

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

When an ISP quotes download speed, what they're actually quoting is browsing speed. To calculate how quickly a file will download (in megabytes) you do this calculation:

browsing speed /8

In your case, the result is 0.625. This is also based on a best case scenario. If the server is busy or attached to a slow connection then your download speed will be even worse.

In essence, the 5Mbps connection you have is too slow for online gaming.

That isn't the case though. I've gamed on this internet speed for over a year with absolutely no issues. Great ping and everything. This only started as of last week.
