Hey there, I have overclocked my 6700k to 4.5ghz with the msi z170a gaming m5. My problem is when I enter bios and turn override on in the voltage settings I set it to 1.330 voltages, and when I check my voltage in cpu-z its running around 1.352 volts? Also its only letting me tweak the volt in 0.5 segments ie 1.325-1.330. Also I know this cpu is stable at 1.328 voltages. Any help would be greatly appreciated its frying my head. Cheers

How do you know the CPU is stable at exactly 1.328V? Did you measure that voltage directly on the CPU using a multimeter with better than 0.05% absolute accuracy? The values you are setting and reading back are controlled by loosely calibrated components with only ~1% accuracy.

To that accuracy uncertainty, the VRM is also compensating for part of the voltage drop between the VRM's sense signal and the CPU substrate: due to resistive losses in the copper and LGA contacts, the VRM has to output a slightly higher voltage than what the CPU expects and you end up with the VRM having to drive something like 1.35V measured directly at its output to deliver the expected 1.33V at its remote sense feedback.

Hey there, I managed 4.5ghz at 1.270v on the vcore in bios, and in all my tests it running anywhere between 1.248-1.272v at around 52c. Can anyone validate this is a decent overclock and if you think I should tweak anything else? Cheers
