Hi all,

My current rig is as follows:

Intel i5-2500k cpu
GTX 680 GPU
Gigabyte Z68X UD3H-B3 motherboard
Thermaltake Frio Overclocking Cooler
Corsair TX 850 power supply
G.Skill Ripjaws X 8gb x 2 DDR3 1333

I am upgrading the rig as follows (bolded items are upgrades) to the following:

Intel i7-6700k cpu
GTX 970 GPU
Gigabyte Z170X G1 Gaming 7 motherboard
Thermaltake Frio Overclocking Cooler
Corsair TX 850 power supply
G.Skill Trident Z 8gb x 2 DDR4 3200

My question is: Do I need to update any sort of drivers or run any sort of diagnostic testing once I have replaced the old parts with the new parts to make sure everything is running smoothly? Do I have to update the Bios so I can overclock my cpu? I have heard that the Z170x mobos sometimes don't allow the skylake cpu's to be overclocked correctly without first updated the motherboard.

Are there any other drivers that I need to update upon installation (I know I will probably have to update the GPU driver but that part is easy).

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Derol

Generally it is good practice to do a reformat, when making a motherboard change. You can look at the bios updates available to see what they were for. Some updates are for improved stability, or compatibility with ram, for example.
