Will this work using a wired ethernet connection on my PC?

So, in our house we have our BT router in our cellar, which is pretty inconvenient, and this connects to the Internet through a BT MK2 socket using DSL, so I can't plug the router in anywhere but there. We also have several Ethernet sockets around our house however and luckily there's one next to my desk. These all route to the cellar next to where we have the router. BT states on their website that to set up an Ethernet connection you need to plug your PC directly into the router, but could I plug an Ethernet cable from the router into the socket that routes to the room where my PC is and then plug in an Ethernet cable from there into my PC?
If that sentence has baffled you a bit I've attached some pictures of the Ethernet plug next to my desk and next to the router so you can hopefully make some more sense of it.
http://goo.gl/1rMGZJ - Photo of my router with the Ethernet plugs next to it that route to the different rooms in the house.
http://goo.gl/3uIg8H - I will plug the cable from one of the 'Gig Ethernet' ports and into the 'Dining Rm' port (photo here: http://goo.gl/JDuiTK) which goes to the room with my desk with this Ethernet port: http://goo.gl/UQsnPR

My question is: Will it work? And how much will my Internet speed be increased? Giving that I'm not plugging my PC directly into the router will the speed be decreased because of it? The distance between the room I'm in isn't very far away from the router.
Here's a speed test with my current speed using WiFi: http://goo.gl/zM0hui
Thanks.

It will work, there should be no speed difference. Can't really say how much your internet speed would increase, if the speed is held back by your wireless then it will increase, otherwise you might not notice a difference (your DSL line might limit the speed). But with a cable connection you should get a more constant and stable connection to your router.
