My r9 390 is running at 80-85 degrees constantly even if i'm just browsing the net.
airflow should be good since i have a nzxt h440 with 2 fans in (front bottom and middle) and 2 out (top and back)
is this normal?

Solution

Hmm, maybe you have a miner malware in your pc, try to scan for it, if you can, or there should be something wrong with your gpu, but I hope it doesn't.

I own a 390 in an H440 and my temps can reach that high also. The problem is no side venthilation on the case. I originally had 3 front intake and 1 exhaust. I added two top exhaust and temps dropped 20C, so I would add one more intake and one more exhaust if I were you.

i also had 3 in the front as stock but i thought it would make airflow better if i put one on top

Try to turning off and on 0db Fan and reinstalling drivers. Btw have you overclocked, changed profile or something else in GPU TweakII ?? And check what's your fan setting in "Proffesional Mode". Is your usage always 100% ?

I already did that and no change.. no i have the gaming mode on as default, and yes the usage is always 100% i did try and turn off some programs in task manager, is it possible that a background application was doing this?

i think i found the solution.. i think it was a virus called glyphra or something like that i got from a windows activator that as soon as i disabled it the GPU clock went down to 300 and the temps are now down to 40-45.

Well if you're not gaming that's normal, but I don't think your problem is solved. Were these high temps when gaming before?

It wont be so high, mining malware will get you way higher temperatures than gaming with 100% usage ... and he can easyli tweak up his coolers now, so he's fine ;)

I said under stress, not gaming. I am aware stress tests are hotter, but they can be realistic. Assassin's Creed Unity is just as intense as a stress test, it is a stress test practically.
