Hi, im streaming from hard drive in my pc to the living room tv, using kodi, wondering if i can configure windows to give higher priority to that

also with qos in my router, i see options to give devices higher priority, is that gonna have an effect on smb?

Streaming over SMB does not use many resources. I see 1-15% cpu usage when streaming several files. There is no transcoding done by the server, so cpu usage is slim to none. This is with an AMD A8 APU.

I use no QOS and no fancy priority settings and have flawless performance. If you have an issue, I bet it lies elsewhere.

i dont know how much of a difference it makes to background performance as i haven't tested it. however, when its set for background and you try to do something on the desktop the performance is terrible. i would assume it would have the same effect the other way around

QoS setting will make no difference if you are streaming in your house it only work lan-wan...and then it is not real useful.

Most router have a small switch chip for the lan ports. In most cases these chips can run all the ports at 1g up and 1g down all at the same time. The switch will never delay traffic so it is a non issue.
