Hello, I am doing my first PC build and I am debating between mother boards. I want high quality wireless and sound integrated into the one I get. It must support sli. So far I am between the Asia z170 deluxe and the Asus maximus VIII extreme, which would be better, or would you recommends different mb?

Solution
IMHO the motherboard is the best place to save money when building a PC. Cut $100 anywhere else, and it impacts performance a lot more than buying a budget mobo.

I have had very good results when gaming with medium budget non gamer motherboards. The sound quality on this budget motherboard exceeded my expectations - it is acceptable even when I tested it plugged into a £2000 Hi Fi system.

Are you sure you need SLI? One gtx 980Ti is enough for pretty much anything, and it is soon to be replaced by even more powerful pascal GPUs.
If you have two old GPU that you wish to run in SLI, you may find the extra cost for mobo and power supply and cooling make it un-economic to use them in a new build.

In general it's safe to assume that when comparing Asus boards with the same chipset, the more expensive is probably going to be better. But it gets to a certain point when you are just spending too much on a motherboard. A $400 motherboard will give you about the same FPS in a game as a $50 motherboard. Better motherboards have more ports and slots, and a better voltage regulator module for overclocking the CPU (and one that may last longer), but in general for a gaming rig where overclocking will occur I'd recommend a $150 motherboard. I wouldn't go over $200, the money can often be better spent.

Ok, thanks for this info. Any board in particular you'd recommend? I probably won't end up getting a 2nd 980ti because I don't want to spend a crap ton of money just for better GPU to Coke out soon.

I have never had a problem with a gigabyte mobo and ASUS also seem to be very good. I had an Asrock mobo that failed after 3 years, and it put me off them a bit
