Boot loop before BIOS screen

Hi all,

I have checked multiple threads on here for a resolution and I have followed as many steps as possible.

My new PC parts arrived last Thursday and I took my time on Friday to build the PC.

I have the following setup;

i7 4790K with stock cooler
MSI Z97S Mobo
2 X 8Gb 2133Mhz Gskills TridentX ram
MSI GTX 970
650W BeQuiet 80 Plus Bronze
120Gb Samsung Evo (OS)
240Gb Samsung Evo
1TB Western Digital 7200RPM HDD
Windows 10

On Friday I had some issues with booting the system. There were two options, I forget exactly what they said but one was "Setup" and the other was "Continue". I selected setup, which got me stuck in a boot look. I reset the CMOS and selected "Continue". This worked and I was able to use my PC.

On Saturday and Sunday I played some games, BF4, Elite Dangerous, Metro First Light, and I processed some videos with GoPro Studio. Everything worked fine and I had no issues what so ever.

Tonight, while playing Elite Dangerous, my PC crashed. It was stuck in a reboot loop which I couldn't get out of. The furthest it got to at this point was the screen before the BIOS, which was a black screen with A2 in the bottom right (this shows every time I boot, but I am not sure what this is). The PC would shut down, and restart itself, shut down again and restart itself. This would continue until I unplugged it from the wall.

I then took out the GPU and the ram and tried restarting it. As there is no MOBO speaker, I didn't get any beeps which would tell me if the MOBO is ok (I read that on another thread here). I then inserted one RAM stick and that got me to windows, but it would freeze and I would have to do a hard reset. I changed the ram stick and used a different slot. This worked fine. I then inserted the GPU again and not the PC is working so far.

I have only browsed the internet for similar issues and posted this thread. I'm kinda afraid of restarting the PC in case it doesn't turn on again. Is there any way to know for certain which component it might be? If the CPU or MOBO was damaged would I still be able to get to Windows?

I am going to run a MEMTEST now and check the temps after playing BF4 for a little while. Just to get some data. I don't want to stress test the CPU without a decent cooler.

If anybody can help, that would be awesome.

Thanks.

Hi Tradesman, thanks for your answer.

I cleared CMOS and tried different ram slots. I haven't narrowed it down much to be honest, the PC works for too long in between errors. I am writing down which ram I am using in which slot, so when I have completed all slots/combinations I will write it here. The PC is slightly more stable when I disconnect the GPU and one ram slot. I can those components back in again and it will work for most of the day. Then I get the restarting issues again.

I took some pictures of the tests I took (Intel Processor Diagnosis Test, MEMTEST86). You can find them here; http://imgur.com/a/ZoYXM

I also took a video of one of the restarting issues which you can watch here; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iR4FdLDtwGQ (This is what happens immediately after the PC freezes and I need to do a hard reset. Once I get out of this loop, the next loop starts. The PC starts and it goes to the MSI logo screen, if I press Del to enter bios, the PC restarts, if I leave it alone, the PC restarts.

After I manage to get past this stage (after removing the GPU and one stick of ram), the PC may try to boot windows, often this fails. Sometimes I get into windows, but then the PC freezes again. At the moment I am running the PC with 1 stick of ram and without the GPU. I will restart the PC with these components and wait for the errors to come back before I start testing the other ram slots. (I have some old ram and an old GPU that I can test, but that's about it).

I also turned off Fast Startup in the power settings and I tried to change the startup selection from Selective Startup to Normal Startup, but this failed.

I am also going to revert back to Windows 7 just incase there's an issue with Windows 10. I can rule this out at least.

Forgot to mention that I created a recovery drive to troubleshoot the startup issues (I also got bootmgr is missing a couple of times). I got an error and the system could not be fixed. I also couldn't reinstall windows (with keeping my files) as I was getting an error to this effect "The drive that Windows is installed on is locked". The drive itself is not locked, so I am not 100% sure what that could mean.

It's a Dark Rock 3. I checked the clearance and I should be ok. It takes up DIMM slot 1.

Back to my restarting problem. I have 2 ram modules. One in slot 2 and one is slot 4 (as per the mobo manual). The PC restarted again, just before I posted my previous update, so I removed the ram in slot 2. The PC restarted without any issues. Still not sure what's wrong :(

Sorry, I misunderstood your question. The Dark Rock is due to arrive tomorrow, I will install it then. At the moment, I am using the stock fan.
