Hi all,

I've been milking my old system for to long it seems. upgrading can't wait any longer. I'm looking for a micro atx build for under $800 canadian that can handle mmo gaming and the newest rts.

I found this build in another thread, is it still good to buy or have things changed since last july? Are the i7's worth the price difference yet?

Edit toadd - I just found the curancy converter on pcpartpicker. This one is a bit out of my price range. I don't need a ssd right now either.

Thanks all,
Halo

The i3 will last as long as any CPU. The hyper threading should keep it viable at least as long as it takes for 4 core CPU's to become the minimum spec for all games, since that's not going to happen overnight. And upgrading to an i5 or i7 is always an option. With a 1200 dollar budget you could build a very nice gaming rig using any form factor. Here is what i think might be your best bang for the buck:

CPU: Intel Core i5-6500 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor ($271.98 @ DirectCanada)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H110M-A Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($77.98 @ DirectCanada)
Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury Black 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-2133...
That build is over $1100.00 CAD now.

I don't have to stay under 800, especially if it means an i3 instead of an i5.

If I want to base it around an i5 chip how close can I get to 800? Dam Canadian dollar. :kaola:

The i3 is actually a pretty good CPU for gaming, it puts up some pretty impressive numbers.

Wow, that i3 chip is nice. What kind f life expectancy do you think I'd get out of it? Maybe get that one now then swap it out for an i5 in a few years.

Would I save much if I give up the micro tx ad go with a normal mid tower?

Maybe I'll have to break the piggy bank open a bit more, I was hoping for a 960 gpu

If I wanted to go with a micro atx still and just wanted the best value for my money what you guys suggest for under 1200?

Thanks as always.

Thanks for the help so far.

How big a drop in performance would I have with this build?

I'd save about three hundred dollars and I could upgrade if needed later.
