What's happening to Xeon prices?

So has anyone else noticed the drastic price drop in xeon cpu's? I mean you can pick an 8c/16t 2670 for $75! It's hard to believe that a once $1500 cpu can be had for close to nothing. It's almost mind boggling. Is there a reason behind these price drops?

Solution
companies are switching from 2011v1 to 2011v3 and therefore can't use those old CPUs. Tech is only as valuable as something that is the same speed or slower. The 6700k is only a 4core but is very close in performance of that 2670. Unless you have a X79 motherboard laying around, no one wants those chips. Hence the low prices.

In fact I bought one of those chips and flipped it with a motherboard for $400.
yup pick those up when you can. just a bit ago they were at $60 and the price is only increasing. the $1500 price tag was a enterprise markup on a top of the line cpu. then about 4 months ago the used market was flooded with 2670s droping the price about 1-200. same thing happened with the older socket 1366 xeons and thats when you need to build a rig. i got a dual 2670 rig decked out with everything for 550. and btw in multi-core a 2670 beats a 1k i7

yup the motherboard is the expensive part. i managed to get a broken evga srx mobo for $40 and repair it for my rig. but it does destroy a 6700k in multicore
