I'm not sure if this should go under this category but....

I am posting this for my cousin who does not have an account. He has an HP Envy Phoenix 850-050qe. Unfortunately he did not get a GTX 970 with it, like he just ordered. It is also a mid tower case. Does anyone know if the 970 will fit and if there is anyway in the case he can add fans for better airflow and temps? I know when I got my 970 for my NZXT H440 my temps raised, but my case is much bigger so I was able to get more fans. He sent me some pictures of the interior, but I could not find anywhere suitable to put some fans. If anyone has done this, it would be greatly appreciated for any help!

It's not bad, if a little small. I upgraded mine from an underperforming slob to a pretty decent rig. Added an FX 8350, 650 watt EVGA power supply, 16 gigs of ram, an SSD and went from an HD6850 to an...

He jumped the gun and already got the MSI 970...

That looks like the bog standard chassis HP uses but with a different front panel (are the drives mounted vertically on a caddy?) If that's the case then you can fit anything up to 11 or so inches, I had a Gigabyte card with a triforce cooler in mine...humungous. If you look for a blower style cooler it will mitigate most of the heat issues but at the expense of added noise.

Yeah, unfortunately its a less than stellar case. He does regret not building his PC. Nonetheless, thanks for the reply. I will keep this in mind.

Cetainly got my moneys worth out of it, and I never had any heat issues due to the fairly decent HP knockoff hyper 212 clone cooler it had. I finally retired it last year for an i5 homebuilt, kept the 970 of course. He'll enjoy the rig, it's about being in the game not what ya ride :)

I like that! Cool. Another question I have, he has this small closed loop (water?) cooler made by HP. Is that the knockoff or are we talking about something else?

It's gonna be made by someone else with HP branding, for instance the mainboard in mine was manufactured by Gigabyte. Just because someone else made it doesn't mean it's no good. For all we know it could be Coolermaster or someone else making these things. Like any AIO liquid cooler check it from time to time for leaks etc.
