hi guys
i have one last query regarding the 960
i am about to buy the asus strix edition of the gtx 960 and i saw that it has a max tdp of 150 watts
whereas some say that the tdp of a 960 is 120 watts
so which one is correct
my current power supply is cooler master thunder 500w with two+12v rails with 24amps on one and 21 amps on other
i know it is a poor quality psu but i dont have money for a new psu right now only for the gpu
the rest of my specs are-
core i5 3330 quad@3.0ghz max tdp-77watts
8 gb ddr3 ram
2x120mm fans
1 hdd sata 7200 rpm 250 gb
ga h61m d2h mobo with pci express 2.0
1xdvd rom drive of lg
i dont overclock at all on any of the components and im currently using a gtx 750 ti

Solution
You have plenty of power, I run an i5 and a GTX 970 on a good 450W PSU.

Your PSU is much lower performance than I would want to use for a high-performance gaming system. Adding this GPU will shorten the life of your PSU.
The TDP of the 960 does vary from 3rd party vendor to the next depending on how much they have factory over-clocked the card which affects how much power is drawn.
The reference TDP is 120W.
Bear in mind that this is the absolute maximum one can expect the card to draw, which one seldom hits during normal gaming.

Most of the cheaper 960's are physically voltage locked to 140w max , some if the higher end factory clocked ones can draw 170w if they're not voltage locked.

You're safe anyway - the thunder isn't a great PSU by any stretch but it'll handle a 960 with your components easily.

Hi- You have plenty of power for a rig with one gtx960. A sys with a gtx 960 requires 20 +12v amps,
your PSU has 34 +12v amps available (not the ind totals of 24+21or 45 +12v),so more than enough to
run your system.
