Hey guys!
So i'm using the ASUS P8-z77 V-Pro mobo (http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA1155/P8Z77-V_PRO/E7198_P8Z77-V_PRO.pdf)
I have my primary (and only) SSD (Samsung 840 PRO 128G) currently connected to the Asmedia SATA port, instead of the intel SATA ports on my mobo. (check mobo layout contents in linked PDF for specifics)
When I tried upgrading to windows 10, the restart process failed. The system would freeze at the BIOS splash. No keyboard inputs worked. I couldn't even enter BIOS. Shutting on & off did nothing.
I removed my SSD, reformatted it at a friend's house, and fresh-installed windows 7 again. Everything has been smooth since.
I can't seem to find anyone who's encountered the same problem.
I want to try and upgrade to Windows 10 again (which, overall is a better OS, right? Up for debate!), but I can't run the risk of a system failure again as I no longer live near friends for plan B. Is/could the type of SATA port it's connected to cause the failure? Suprised the SSD affected the BIOS functionality at all actually.
- Scared noobie
UPDATE: Found some more info on the ASMEDIA SATA ports I'm using, making it much more likely that my setup is causing the error:
"ASMedia® PCIe SATA 6Gb/s controller**- 2 x SATA 6Gb/s ports with port multiplier support* Supports on Intel® Core™ processor family with Windows® 7 operating systems.** These SATA ports are for data hard drives only. ATAPI devices are not supported."
Is it safe to say plugging it into the intel SATA ports will resolve the issue?
