Hello dear community ,

I want to upgrade my RAM ... i currently have 4gb ram and this is my system
mobo: gigabyte b75m-d3h (DDR3)
cpu:i5 3470
gpu:gtx 960 4gb g1 gaming
psu:coolermaster 650w gm series

I want to upgrade my RAM as the tittle says ... should i upgrade it to 8gb (2x4) or 16gb(2x8) ... obviously 16gb is better but will i have a great increase in terms or performance or it will be an over kill .... in my country a dual kit of 8gb costs 40 euros and a dual kit of 16gb costs 75-80 euros ... but i dont want to give extra 40 euros if dont have a noticable boost in performance

PS: tell me a good model or manufacturer :p

Thanks in advance ... god bless you all :D

Really depends on what all you do with your rig, Here I'd prob go 8GB and put the rest aside to when you plan to upgrade other components, i.e. if thinking Z170 down the road, probably won't carry the DDR3 forward, or the other 35-40 could go into another component like an SSD if you you don't already have one

Well I guarantee your going to get some conflicting answers on this. But in my opinion as of right now 8gb is still enough or more than enough for any game im aware of, with all the games I own I have never seen my system ram exceed 6.5gb in use with any game on any settings. This may not be true in a few years but as it stands today in my opinion 8gb is plenty for a gamer.

8GB is the gold standard these days. It's all any user needs... For now. I have begun to notice that my family rig and a box running a couple of VMs is hitting the 8GB limit pretty often. So if it's just yourself and you aren't doing anything intensive 8GB is fine... But 16GB will probably become the standard. It will take a few years though. By which time you probably have completely replaced your build. So for now 8GB is fine.

I have 16GB, but started with 8GB. I have yet to notice any real difference. Assuming that your primary use is gaming, 8GB is enough right now. I can't say that it'll be that way in 18 months, but for now 8GB is enough for day to day use and gaming.

As for manufacturers, I've had good luck with GSkill, Corsair, and Kingston. Since you are on a B75 chipset, I'd stick with DDR3 1333 or 1600, don't waste your money on anything faster as you won't see any benefit.

It depends on how you use your computer. 4GB is starting to get pretty tight for a lot of modern applications. 8GB is pretty good if you mostly do one or two things at a time (for example, play a game), 16GB is more appropriate if you keep a lot of applications running (a browser with 30 open tabs, a word processor, a spreadsheet, google earth, GIMP, all running at once). I have 16 GB in my machine and am thinking about upgrading to 32 or 64GB because I'm finding that I keep running more and more VMs (virtual machines) which just eat memory.

Thank you all for the fast and accurate answers .... i will probably stick with 8gb .... i have one more question .... right now i have 4gb(2x2 1600mhz) rams and i will buy 8gb(2x4 1600mhz) ... should i put them all together ???? and have 12gb in general or that will downgrade my system ??? (different ram manufacturers or stop have benefit from dual channeling)

Start with the 2x4GB set, in slots 1-3 or 2-4 and ensure it's stable, then can try adding the 2x2GB sticks in the open slots, if they will play (no guarantees they will, it's a 50/50 crapshoot) then you will have 12GB and all running in dual channel mode. If they don't want to play (no boot, BSOD, etc) give a shout and we can try voltage/timing adjustments to try and get them to play ;)
