Hello all, for the longest time the plastic pin that holds in the CAT 5 cable has been broken. I have been using tape to hold in the cable, but I figured it was about time to fix it. So I cut off the end that was broken and replaced it with a new one. When I put the cable back in my computer, it said that it had "limited" access to the internet. After troubleshooting, it said that it that it doesn't have a valid ip configuration. Ive tried changing the ip address and nothing works. Ive made sure that my computer picked it up automatically and that didn't work. I was wondering if any one else has had this problem and what the solution is. I don't know why it was working one minute and then it wasn't the next.

If it does not work, something is not right.
The only thing you changed was the cable termination. So....that is it.

Putting a new RJ-45 on a cat 5 looks way easier than it actually is. It does take practice.
