Desktop will not boot after re-inserting the RAM

Today I randomly decided to take a look at what my Desktop's RAM looked like by carefully removing the single 8gb stick of RAM. After I had observed it, I carefully placed the RAM back into its slot (I can assure that it was re-inserted correctly). Then I started my computer, nothing was displayed on the monitor... and all I heard was my loud cpu fan not slowing down as it normally does during boot. Does anyone have any idea why this happened and what I can do to fix it? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Solution
MB and PSU are still energized while main power is on, that may ruin components !!!
Don't ever do that. Make sure that main power is disconnected and all the power is drained off by pushing start button for few seconds. With laptops battery should be removed too.
You can try resetting BIOS just in case RAM is not screwed.
