Hi Guys
I am trying to create a home network where it is possible to use some devices on a different DNS.

Here is why...
1/ I am a UK person living in Italy so I need a UK IP for watching things like SKY and NetFlix
2/ I found a VPN solution to this but recently Netflix blocked any proxy use - SKY still works and so too does BBC iPlayer, ITV etc..
3/ I found a new VPN solution to solve the NetFlix blocking issue but then SKY and other stuff doesnt work

So, unless I can find a single DNS solution I now have 2 DNS's to figure out.

Here is my setup as it stands -
1/ Modem/router (Netgear 6200) connected to an 8-port switch (to ensure best trafic management) connected to a hub (D-Link 615)

2/ The NG6200 is upstairs and the D-Link is downstairs - both use the same SSID so I have good wifi coverage on the same SSID for all mobile devices - seems to work well

3/ I prefer cabled connections to my 3 smart TV's from the switch - this seems to ensure maximum bandwidth when streaming

However, as described above, this setup means that I cannot use both of my DNS options to evade the Netflix blocker and mask my IP for SKY. I thought about having the 2nd DNS address on the HUB since that is where the SKY box is connected (cabled) but the TV is also in that room so, again, I loose Netflix.

Now I realise I may have totally over-complicated this and almost disappeared up my own rear - so any expert advice would be very welcome. :)

Solution
Hi Guys

I know this is an old thread but I am still trying to reach a solution and, just when I think I've solved it, something breaks so I'm starting over.

So, here is what I'm trying to achieve..

1/ NetGear D6200 modem/router enters on upper floor
2/ Floors with tick concrete floors and walls so wireless to lower floor is not possible
3/ An Ethernet cable is now in place to connect the 2 floors
4/ Incoming IP is Italy
5/ Need UK IP to view UK stuff (Sky etc..)

Here is where I am...
1/ D6200 > TP-Link (upper floor)
2/ TP-Link is configured as a VPN serving UK IP (works well but slow internet)
3/ TP-Link > 8 port managed switch
4/ 8- port switch > various upper floor devices including Sky, Amazon Fire, NAS, PC, PS4 serving UK IP...
DNS and VPN are different things. In any case since you have dumb tv involved...ie you can't run software you will have to do any tricks with the router. You best bet is if you router can run firmware like dd-wrt. You can then direct traffic based on destination or source ip. Unfortantly these type of things are not configured via the gui so you are going to have to learn all about iptables command

4/ 8- port switch > various upper floor devices including Sky, Amazon Fire, NAS, PC, PS4 serving UK IP (works well)
5/ side note: The D6200 also provides an Italian wireless IP for my Smart TV so I can watch Netflix (Netflix wil not allow the VPN connection - proxy issue blocks viewing)

This is the upper floor and it all seems to work well although my internet browsing speed 'feels' slow even though speed tests look ok. Remember, this is Italy so everything is slow - lol

Now, here is where I'm having problems. Configuration on the lower floor. As stated, I have an Ethernet cable now in place to connect the floors. I also have a 2nd TP Link router and a spare DP Link router if I need them.

My thought process was to connect the Upper floor TP-Link (VPN configured) to the 2nd TP-Link router on the lower floor. The 2nd TP-Link router to be configured as an Access Point but not sure
- how do I configure the 2nd TP-Link as an AP
- will it pick up the UK IP?
- should the cable that links the floors connect to the D6200 modem/router or the upper floor Tp-link?
- will the lower floor devices still be on the same network (My NAS feeds my SONOS music)?
- then, how would I transmit an Italian IP on the lower floor for my TV's to use Netflix (like the upper floor)?

In hindsight maybe I should have had 2 ethernet cables linking the 2 floors

Any further advice would be great
