hi guys, my samsung (d3 station) external hard drive is playing up. when i connect it to my laptop it starts to mount and it becomes visible on my "devices and printers" screen under "unspecified" in my control panel but not in "my computer"
it then quickly dis-mounts and can not be found any where !!! whilst it was mounted i managed to check its properties menu and it says its working fine, ive updated the divers for it with no luck. can anyone tell me what may be wrong and how could i recover the data from it as it contains my entire music library

Hi there ProductProducer188,

Is the drive recognized by Disk Management and how?
I believe you can perform several basic troubleshooting steps:
- Attach the device with a different USB cable. Try using a different power cable as well.(in case you have a spare one)
- Connect it to another system. That way, you will rule out a possible driver related issue.

In case the issue persists, then there is something wrong with either the enclosure or the HDD itself.
Yet, you can try to access the drive with some data recovery tool: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-1644496/lost-data-recovery.html
After that, you can test the drive with some of these: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/282651-32-best-diagnostic-testing-utility

Is the drive under warranty?

Let me know how this goes,

hey D_Know_WD
so after after reading this i thought to double check my mains power cable as i have two that are very similar and have realized that the one i was using did not have enough voltage to fully power the hard drive. lol. after swapping over the power cable my HDD is working perfectly. thanks for bringing this to my attention. i just cant believe i did not realize sooner.

thanks again !!!
