First time builder... 2009 Macbook Pro is no longer cutting it. Need more speed and power! Looking for 24 gigs of ram with future potential to upgrade up to 64 or higher? Some of my After Effects plugins use all 8 gigs I currently have. Main use is for After Effects, Photoshop, Premiere, Cinema 4D, Element 3D. Need a great processor, video card, and cooling. I can do without an optical drive for now, but would like a slot to add one later. Prefer SSD. A wired/ wireless network card. Also include any building tools needed.

Budget: $2,000-2,500

Location: NYC area

Use (Gaming, Rendering, etc): Video production and rendering of motion graphics, video effects, and animation

Peripherals required (monitor, keyboard/mouse, etc): Wireless or bluetooth keyboard and mouse since I'm going to use my TV for now unless you know of a 4k monitor within budget

Operating System required: Probably most current windows. Not against other suggested options.

Solution
This is my suggestion, it includes all the parts you wanted including even the monitor and optical drive, it will do very well at video editing etc due to the 6 core processor which can be overclocked well using the CPU cooler

Mainly4AE,

Unless you are particularly interested in building, I think there are a lot of advantages to finding a "new other" workstation with a good specification. For example:

DELL PRECISION T5810 E5-1650 6-CORE 2TB HD 32GB 4GB K4200 W8P 3YR DELL WNTY > $1875

http://www.ebay.com/itm/DELL-PRECISION-T5810-E5-1650-6-CORE-2TB-HD-32GB-4GB-K4200-W8P-3YR-DELL-WNTY-/151983852731?hash=item2362f18cbb:g:r58AAOSwcwhVRR5z

The E5-1650 v3 6-core @ 3.5 /3.8 is one of Intel's best cost / performance CPU's. And that particular one has a Quadro K4200 (4GB) an $850 card, perfect for your uses, a warranty, and is ready to go, saving days of researching, ordering, and assembly.

Add to that:

Drive 1: SAMSUNG 850 EVO 2.5" 500GB SATA III 3-D Vertical Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-75E500B/AM > $150 (OS, applications, working files)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147373&cm_re=samsung_850_evo_500gb-_-20-147-373-_-Product

Monitor: BenQ BL2711U UHD 4K Designer Monitor for CAD and Animation Design > $600

http://www.amazon.com/BenQ-BL2711U-Designer-Monitor-Animation/dp/B00RORBPEW

And the total is $2625, not a million miles off your budget with a 4K monitor

If you do prefer to build, here's an idea based on the Xeon E5-1650 v3 (6-core @ 3.5 /3.8GHz) on an X99 motherboard.

http://ark.intel.com/products/82765/Intel-Xeon-Processor-E5-1650-v3-15M-Cache-3_50-GHz

This has the benefit of supporting ECC RAM and has 40 PCIe lanes to the 28 of an i7-5820K. The extra lanes are useful as this specification includes two GTX 960's. The dual GTX 960 mean there are two graphics processors with 8GB memory and 3,000 CUDA cores for GPU video processing. But, I'd recommend considering a Quadro M4000 which has 8GB memory and supports 10-bit color and high anti-aliasing. I used to run a Solidworks Quadro driver with x128 anti-aliasing. For production of 2D graphics I'd use only CPU rendering / processing. The storage drive is a Seagate Constellation ES.3 enterprise drive as these have 128MB of cache instead of 64MB.

The case is especially designed for quiet operation and this is essential for a workstation- "silent hardware".

Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1 and possibly even some of the older versions of windows than that also support hyperthreading, so where did you get this piece of information that only windows 10 supports it?

@Bambiboom, you do realize that the RAM you've selected you've selected for the custom build doesn't work with the motherboard, due the the RAM selected being DDR3 and the motherboard only supporting DDR4? Also, for the money you are spending on the power supply, you can pick up the superior EVGA G2 in the same capacity
