i have decided a while back to overclock my i7 4790k on a gigabyte h97-d3h micro atx. i got successful overclock to 4.7ghz without increasing voltage, but my 16gb hyperx fury 1600mhz ddr3 ram did not overclock at all with it. is this an issue? should i try and overclock my ram? or leave it the way it is. if i do have to overclock it then can someone give me a little tutorial or explanation on which thing i need to do because i tried to upscale it and it only goes up to 1600mhz and auto.

SPECS:
i7 4790k
GTX 780 3gb reference
16gb ddr3 1600mhz hyperx fury
gigabyte h97-d3h
1tb wd blue hdd
500gb toshiba hdd
750Watt seasonic gold 80+

He means reducing the values. Ex. "9 to 8 CAS"

You don't need to overclock your RAM w/ your CPU and it's recommended that you leave it alone. It can cause general system instability and the gains are near zero. Not worth your time especially considering the headaches it can give you. I'd only recommend it if you are the sort of person who enjoys tweaking.

what do you mean by timing and tightening it?

The 1600MHz is the bus speed of the RAM. Timing means something like CL9, CL10 etc. My RAMs are Gskill Sniper 1600MHz CL9 (9 9 9 24). CL 9 means RAM will do one cycle after 9 CPU cycles. So if you could select CL8, then it'd do one cycle after 8 CPU cycle.
