Did you just copy the ISO file the the flash drive? You have to actually burn it, otherwise it won't work. Use a tool like Rufus if you have Windows but if you have Linux already most distros have an included tool.

If you just copied the file to the USB drive, you missed a few steps.
Follow these instructions from Ubuntu, it's pretty fast and easy. I've done it several times.
