Looking for confirmation that a EVGA GeForce GTX 750 TI SC is compatible with my Gateway DX4860-UB33P.

Some comments I've found say it will not work due to a BIOS issue, and others say it works great.
Per CPU-Z, Motherboard = IPISB-VR (P02-A2)

Comments are about 50/50 that the machine will post, but just to a black screen with a flashing cursor, and others say it works great and is a good upgrade.

UPDATE - I'm leaning towards the MSI GTX 750 TI due to a physical BIOS switch on the card - Hybrid or Legacy BIOS support whereas Legacy will supposedly work with my PC.

I am upgrading from an HD4850 that failed, and I have updated the PSU to a Corsair GS 600W.

I'm looking to bridge the gap in price/performance until I can purchase a new up-to-date gaming pc, so if this will work, I will be in good shape for the near future, and be able to play games (including new ones) by adding this card with DX11 support.

Thanks for any assistance you can provide so I won't be flushing $$ down the toilet :)

they can say all they want but unless you see solid proof it will may not be worth the risk .. or try the card and see but be sure if it fails you bought it from a place with a generous return policy for something like full refund rma?? take it to a local pc shop and let them deal with it if ''they '' get the card you want working as you expect then pay the man if ''they'' cant then say thanks for trying and they may have a few cards to try if one don't work out as planed . prebuilts can be funny and I see gateway has no support site or info on anything I could find [hint-hint ]

my disclaimer

some models of store bought computers [dell.hp,acer,ect..] may come with a ''locked or fixed'' bios and may not allow you to...

my disclaimer

some models of store bought computers [dell.hp,acer,ect..] may come with a ''locked or fixed'' bios and may not allow you to change certain hardware as a video card.. this is done to protect them from undue warranty claims and refunds .this is not done to hurt you but to protect them. you really need to see if that upgrade has been proven to work in your model first before you invest money in it .. there are a lot of these threads here at toms to look at some models will allow upgrades and some dont.. and a lot of guys here say ya ya ya when is really no no no...it would be sad you spent $200 on a card that wount post after you installed it as most find out. then get told its your psu and you spend more and end up right back where you are now, but its up to you good luck..

you got to know the the boards in these computers are not like the ones we use to do custom builds witch are open to upgrading with in the boards compatibly . the bios is custom made for there design and just for the parts they authorize to be used on there computers there only guaranteed to work as is out of the box as you bought it ,..

also these boards do not have to meet atx standards and there pci-e slot power may not do the required 75w needed for most higher end cards and can be limited to say 45 or 60w that is all thats needed with the low end factory oem cards that it may of shipped with

good luck

this guy seemed to have got a 750 ti to work with a little work ??

Thanks for your input. I'm currently leaning towards spending a few extra $$s and getting an MSI GeForce 750 TI model (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127783) as it has a BIOS switch that allows to choose between Hybrid(UEFI) and Legacy. From what I've read, the Legacy option will allow it to work with my machine.
