Okay more newbie questions... still doing my first build.

I have the samsung 250gb SSD.. how the hell do i install this thing?

looking at youtube vids it says i need some kind of converter to do that.. but when i was asking for build advice here, nobody mentioned that. So im thinking theres another way. I can't see anything that would fit into its port tho. Can anybody help me with this?

Stop
Take a deep breath
Let it out
Relax

An SSD is just another drive. It connects exactly the same way an HDD would
1 power cable from the PSU
1 data cable from the motherboard SATA port

Now...for mounting it...that depends on your case. Most recent cases have 1 or more dedicated 2.5" mounting spots. Does yours?

Actually i figured this part out.. but another question..

Both my mechanical HDD and also the SSD have additional ports other than the big pin connector.

The SSD has another 7 contact connector.. and the hdd has that same 7 contact connector plus a 4 pin connector.. do i need to plug something into those as well?

These two are the only things you need to connect

Do not worry about that 4 pin thing.

So dont worry about the 4 pin on the regular hdd? (not talking about the ssd for the 4 pin).

And 2 more questions

1. How do i tell which sata port is gen 3?

2. Should i be using the same cable (coming from sata1 on the PSU) to connect both the hdd and the ssd? or would it be faster if i used sata1 for hdd and then a seperate sata2 for the ssd?

Thanks in advance! you guys rule

answer 1: Usually those ports are in a separate Colour. Look on the motherboard PCB and it'll be named as SATA 3gen or SATA 6Gbps. If you can't find that, refer to the motherboard's website. If you can't find it post it here and we'll find you.

Answer 2: There's no change in that you can use any SATA connector from your PSU.

My sata ports on the mobu read as follows

Sata6G_56 (this is a double slot, 2 ports stacked on top of eachother)
Sata6G_34 (this is a double slot, 2 ports stacked on top of eachother)
Sata6G_2
Sata6G_1

Motherboard is Asus Z170 PRO GAMING ATX LGA1151 Motherboard

Awesome thank you. Okay last question haha (sorry i have so many!!)

The case i bought came with a huge amount of wires connected to it. The wires have tags on them. USB, HD Audio, a 20 pin connector with no tag, power LED -, Power LED +, power SW, reset SW, HDD LED

The audio and USB are both 9 pin connectors, the rest are 2 pin connectors, minus the random nameless 20 pin connector.

What am i supposed to do with these? Plug them all into the mobu? or are they unnecessary?

Most/all of them ARE necessary.
Your motherboard and case user manuals will tell you where they go.

For instance: "power SW"

This is the wire that goes to the button that allows you to turn the PC on. You want to do that once in a while, right?
