Currently I have a:
Asrock 970 Extreme4
AMD FX-8320
ASUS Radeon R9 280x (crossfire)
16 GB of Ram

I'm just wondering if replacing my current MOBO with the 970 Pro Gaming is worthwhile. I will be upgrading a couple other things, namely my ram and cpu, I'm just not sure what cpu i want to get. Anyway, any advice or suggestions would be most welcome. Thanks in advance guys.

Your existing motherboard is prone to overheating its power delivery system when you run that CPU, especially if you plan to overclock, but even at stock.

The Gigabyte GA 970a-UD3P is as good as or better than the Pro Gaming and is about 25% cheaper.

If you are thinking about a CPU upgrade, there isn't one that will give you much more than you can get by overclocking your existing CPU.

If you want significantly more CPU power, you must replace your motherboard and overclock, or rebuild your system around an Intel CPU.
