I wanted to upgrade my hard drive and want to go back to windows 7, as windows 10 is slow. I want to make sure i can use an oem version of windows 7 without any license problems.

Solution

If that OEM key is from the same system you are changing the hard drive on, no issues. If it's from another system, you need a new license.

i have never had an issue doing this but others will say they have had problems. all you can do is give it a shot. won't take but a minute to get to the screen where you put the key in to find out if it will let it work.

did you use this key to upgrade to win 10? if so then it may not be usable as the license has been changed to a win 10 one. if this is a different key, then give it a shot.

I would check to make sure your BIOS settings are all proper for a Windows 10 installation on a SSD. It should not be slow. If you have UEFI BIOS and Windows 10, it generally boots pretttttttty quick on a SSD. I suspect you have something setup incorrectly.

i'd give it a try. like i said i have reused keys from al kinds of sources with win 7 and never had one not work on a different build. it's worth the shot anyway as all it can do is fail to activate. it'll still install fully and give you 30 days to activate it either way.
