Approximate Purchase Date: I planning on purchasing parts over the course of the next 3 months. The plan is to buy a high quality case and PSU followed by parts that are still solid and won’t get outdated within the next year or so.

Budget Range: 1,500 – 3,500 USD

System Usage from Most to Least Important:
1. surfing the internet;
2. writing/reviewing technical papers;
3. running engineering models;
4. running large excel spreadsheets;
5. watching video;
6. gaming (I’m planning on getting into gaming as a hobby)

Are you buying a monitor: Yes

Parts to Upgrade: new system build

Do you need to buy OS: Yes, however, it’ll be a separate purchase as I’ll be able to purchase Windows OS at a significant work discount.

Please note that if you're using an OEM license of Windows, you will need a new one when buying a new motherboard.

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: amazon, newegg, anything that offers free shipping and half decent customer service.

Location: Washington, DC metro area

Parts Preferences: I’m partial to Intel, Asus and Corsair brands, but I’m not picky. I value build quality.

Overclocking: Maybe, when I learn how to.

SLI or Crossfire: Maybe, in the future and if it makes sense to do so (running multiple UHD monitors)

Your Monitor Resolution: 4k, 5k resolution. Prefer IPS. Refresh isn’t a big deal since I’ll be a beginning gamer. Reading and writing is the first and most important. Also prefer to have brightness above 300 nits. I also want 21:9 ratio.

Additional Comments: Minimalist design; good cord management; prefer metal and no plastic

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: I need a pc for my home office and to get a half decent build for gaming as I start picking up the hobby. I want a build that will be easy to upgrade parts in the future.

This is my current build selection:

Solution
thats a big budget, outside of gaming anything you buy with that money will be very overkill, maybe buy a bigger ssd to last longer, as when you start gaming 256GB will go very quickly.
