i need an upgrade to my cpu and motherboard help

my computer specs are
GPU geforce gtx 970
AMD X6FX-6300 3.5GHZ
550wat power supply
Seagate 1 tb harddrive
Kingston X 16gb ram
my mother board is asus m5a78l-m lx3

i need to upgrade my pc for the upcoming oculus rift and i dont know what to get.
I want to get something that will not need upgrading for years to come i am looking at the i7 6700 and the intel 5820k but i dont know what im doing im lookin up all these benchmark tests and they are using all these fancy words but i dont know what i need i want to keep my price below £300 but i also know i need to upgrade my mother board as well but i dont know what to go for with that ither can any one help

personally i would choose the 5820k over the 6700k or 4790k because i do a few other things besides just games and it would be the better performer. if you can wait, broadwell-e is said to release sometime in q1/q2 of this year which is what im waiting for. either way you cant go wrong with the 6700k or 5820k. for strictly gaming, i would probably go with the 6700k
