What would be the best kit for upgrading my pc with? Currently have a AMD Athlon 4x II with a Gigabyte MA785GMT-UD2H, 6 GB ram. Pc is mostly used for video editing and gaming. Looking for something to speed up rendering and overall speed.

Kit 1, $352:
AMD FX 8350 4.0GHZ
ASUS M5A97 R2.0
BallistixSport 8GB 1600MHz

Kit 2, $235:
Intel I5 3550 3.4GHZ
ASUS P8Z77-V deluxe
Corsair vengeance DDR3 8GB 2133 mhz

The Graphics card you have will also matter for video editing and gaming so knowing that would be great.

Kit 1 would be better in video editing, while kit 2 with the i5 will be better at gaming, and less optimized video editing programs, i personally from the two would go with kit 2 as it is cheaper and will not be massively behind on multi threaded tasks.

Remember that you can put together kits yourself that are cheaper then ones you buy together.

Here are a selection of components, wile the skylake i5 will not be as good in video editing, but not too far behind it will excel in gaming, making it a good all round CPU. This CHIP would also allow you to jump on the new platform of DDR4, possibly saving you money in the long term...

This setup could also be made about $50 with cheaper RAM (the selected as some of the best CAS available on DDR4) and a cheaper mobo.

Get an samsung evo 850 ssd if u dont have an ssd already. Also, intel is way better in this situation, so kit 2. However, id spend 20 dollars extra and get an i5 4690k and get a mobo thats compatible to your liking.
