I have the following setup:
Cisco DPC3010 Cable Modem
Linksys E900 Router connected to Modem
MagicJack with 2.4 GHz cordless phone connected to router
HP desktop running Windows 7 connected to router
Lenovo laptop connected to router wirelessly
Once/twice a day I lose wireless connection from my laptop. the network is still shown in the list, but when I try to connect it says Cannot connect to network. Same for my mobile phone. I have to reboot the router to fix the problem each time. I did a hard reset on the router, updated firmware, tried changing the channels, but the problem persists.

Solution
Frequent wireless disconnects are a regular annoyance and usually an indication that the router is ready for retiring.

I had that problem with budget-priced routers of several brands (Netgear mostly) after only a few months old.
Since I switched to an expensive Billion router 9 months ago it has never happened once. Solid as a rock in all aspects.
So top-notch routers do still exist if you're prepared to spend the money, it's the lower-priced ones where quality has dropped off alarmingly.
