Hi,

so I've been looking to build my first for a while now and after a lot of reading and looking at parts I think I might have it pretty much figured. This will be gaming pc where the GPU will be upgraded to a Pascal when these are released. So the build is as follows;

i5 6600K
Cryogenic H5 ultimate
MSI Z170-A PRO
KFA2/GALAX geforce gtx 950 ex oc w 2G
Kingston Hyperx fury DDr4-2166 2x4gb
Coolermaster GM G650W PSU
Corsair carbide 200R
And I have the hard drives already.

Now since this is my first build I just wanted to ask and would welcome all tips, hints, suggestions, modifications etc. before I go ahead and purchase the components. I really look forward to reading your answers and thank you for taking the time to check this thread.

You'll lose out 10-15 fps in Fallout 4 and GTA V by having opted for DDR4-2133 memory over DDR4-3000. If you can live with that, no problem. At places you'll see 75 fps you could've seen 90 ranges. It's quite a difference and my next build I wouldn't include anything below 2800.

Prove for that:

For the CPU, the i7-5820k isn't Skylake compatible, It's an Haswell-E LGA 2011-v3 CPU. I personally think the i5-6600k is very strong and doesn't need a stronger one unless you plan on using any other heavy programs besides gaming, like 3D rendering programs.

And I'd say yes to your last question, I personally never even used an anti-static wrap.

Case isn't one with airflow potential and quite weak at that expect. I never recommend it, but it is a popular choice. What I would do is switch the Cryorig H5 for a cheaper one, like the M9i and upgrade to a motherboard to something like the Gigabyte Z170X-Gaming 3. A mobo that is more feature rich and overall will provide a better balance. Also, look for DDR4-2666 or higher. It makes a difference in open world games. For the power supply, I'm sure the EVGA B2 750w is cheaper than the Cooler Master G650M, yet much better.

Ok, so first thank you for that thorough reply. However I do have few follow up questions. As I live in Denmark some of the prices here are a bit different and your build is both more expensive (and better I know) and some of the parts not available.
1. I cannot get the case here, so do you have other suggestions at that price or perhaps a bit lower? Are the Zalman Z11 plus HF1 or antec gx505 any good?
2. I can get the motherboard for like 50$ more but the asus Z170 Pro Gaming is the same price, so would that be a better option? Do you know of any that might be a bit cheaper?
3. Anything wrong with the Kingston RAM if I get these in 2666 or above?
4. The PSU is also almost twice as expensive - are the cooler masters poor quality? If get one of these in 700-750W.
5. The reason why I picked this Graphics card was due to the higher OC on it - both are the exact same price so would you still recommend the gigabyte?
6. Would the CPU cooler you suggest be as effective with OC?

Thank you again for taking your time and to everyone else for their input.

1. Which site will you buy the case from? Maybe I can judge from browsing through that site.
2. If the Asus Z170 Pro Gaming costs the same, you should go with that for sure. It's much better.
3. I don't think so, Kingston RAM is good, but most brands past 2666 Mhz are good.
4. The G650M is far from being the best in the world. Again, if you link the website you're buying from perhaps I can select a better PSU for the price. Like a Seasonic S12/M12II 620w or whatever is available.
5. Brand doesn't really matter for the GTX 950. I just chose it because I thought you were located in the US and it was the cheapest one. Galax is good, but Gigabyte is also good. You can overclock both for better performance, no big deal. Go for the Galax.
6. The Cryorig H5 is better for overclocking, but for the price the M9i will do well at 4.3-4.4 Ghz ranges, but the Cryorig H5 is better but clearly more expensive.

It is important to let us know we're you're located if you're not in the US, because we automatically assume you are and judge component selection off of US PC Part Picker prices.

Thank you again.
Yea I know sry I did not inform you that I'm located in Denmark, that would perhaps have made it easier.

1. I'm buying from proshop.dk. The website does not have an English version, but if you do decide to look here's the translation for you to find the category (much it you will understand being PCs.
PSU = strømforsyning
Case = kabinet

I went ahead and purchased most of the parts today - with the asus mobo, H5 cooler and the corsair RAM you suggested. I was also looking at the cooler master GM750W instead to make sure there's enough juice if I decide to SLI at some point. It is 80 plus bronze rated but if you have any suggestions they are very much appreciated. For the case I was looking at the corsair carbide 200R.

I currently have a SSD drive, will there be any advantage to getting another and running OS on one and games etc. on the other?

In some games there will be advantage, it won't be a bad move (Regarding another SSD).

Get this power supply if you want 750 watts:
https://www.proshop.dk/Stroemforsyning/TS-Gold-Series-750W-PSU/2461235?s=xfx

This case is miles better, build quality wise airflow and cable management and costs the same compared to Corsair 200R:
https://www.proshop.dk/Kabinet/Eclipse-P400-W-Anthracite/2537291?s=phanteks

Alternative if you can't wait for it to release (21th of march), then this one is good:

Do you have any experiences with the OCZ trion 100 ssd's? I know its not as fast as a lot of the brands/models, but do you think it will be good enough for either the OS or gaming HDD, depending on which needs to be the fastest?
I'll look into getting that case instead (enthoo, can't wait). Unless this would be as good an option?
https://www.proshop.dk/Kabinet/Source-S340-Black/2457671?o=1028&inv=hoejbjerg_dk&pn=2
Regarding the PSU again. Anything from this list you can recommend?
https://www.proshop.dk/Stroemforsyning?o=1028&inv=hoejbjerg_dk
Not that it has to be 750W but enough to keep the SLI option open.

Thanks.

Thank you very much for all your help. I think I'm ready to get it all purchased and get to building, can't wait. I'll post the final build version once I've got the parts.
Thanks again.

Ok, so here is what I went and picked up today.

i5 6600K
Cryorig H5
Asus z170 Pro Gaming
Kingston hyperx fury 2133 16gb
Asus GeForce GTX970 strix
Evga GQ 650w
Fractal design define S
Kingston V300 ssd

As you can tell I opted for the 16gb 2133 instead of the 8gb 3000, hope this wasn't to dumb a move?
Also I got the fractal designs case after watching a lot of reviews of both this and what you suggested. Couldn't wait until the release date.
And the 970 - the guy at the store just gave me an offer I couldn't refuse (fits the overall system a bit better too I think).
I am however still doubting my choice of CPU. I'm wondering if I should spend the extra cash and get the i7 6700K or 5820K (hexa core) or if this would be a bit overkill?

And finally would a anti static strap connected to a switched off but plugged in PSU be good enough for assembly?

Thanks.
