How does this system look?

As always, posting system specs on Tom's to get the good feedback this forum provides. Main purpose of the system is 1440p gaming. I didn't include the cpu heatsink because I'm going to be doing a custom water loop (which I'll be starting a different thread for later).

Building a black/white system to match the custom water loop, and lighting.

Intel Core i5-6600K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor
Asus Z170-A ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
Corsair Dominator Platinum 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-3000 Memory
Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB WINDFORCE 3X Video Card
Corsair Air 540 ATX Mid Tower Case
EVGA SuperNOVA G2 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply

Questions:
1. Is DDR4 3000 memory alright, or do I need to go with higher speed ram?
2. Do I need an M.2 hard drive over the 2.5"? Are they really worth the extra money?
3. I want to have LED lighting in the case. I know there are motherboards out there that have LED plugs for your LED strip so you can control the LED colors. Any motherboards out there with an LED plug that are pure black, or black/white? Also, open to other suggestions on lighting the case up. I like the idea of having an LED strip that I can change to various colors. That's why I want a black/white system, so that when the LED change colors, the white parts also change to that color. Hope I'm making sense here.

Solution
1 DDR4-3000 is an overclock for the memory controller but should be fine . Personally I'd opt for 2 x 8 gig of 2666 MHz RAM .

2/ most M.2 drives use SATA controller chips and run at the same speed as a SATA SSD . A few using NVMe controller chips are 3-4 times faster . Buy a samsung 950 M.2 if booting in 3-4 seconds is important to you .

Black or black/white motherboards with a Z170 chipset

Not a huge fan of MSI but the Krait looks awesome

The rig looks super sweat and black and white theme is always killer.
1. I think the 3000 Corsair RAM would be fine obviously the higher you go faster speeds..but I don't think it would be worth the arm and leg they tend to charge when going for the next speed. But it's really a personal preference budget thing I have built a lot of PC and rarely can i directly notice the RAM speeds.
2. m.2 speeds are faster if you want the fastest boot time yeah go with it but is it worth the money that's really depending on how much you feel a slightly faster read/write time is worth. m.2 can provide around 10gb/s where a SATA can do 6gb/s ao not to much. I wouldn't think it's worth the money but that's me.
3. I'm not aware of any blk/white mobo's that provide specific plugs for LED strips but I know a lot of LED will use a molex connector to plug into. I have always liked LED strips but you will certainly go through your fair share of brands and types trying to find one that providers the color and lighting you want. With the rig being black and white have you thought of doing like a black-light LED it would look sick IMO.
Good Luck with your build!!
