Hi,

So I have this old Windows XP computer which I thought would be nice to turn into a print server and be able to print worldwide on laptops or with mobile phone apps. This should be possible. (the printer is a HP Photosmart C5100). I have a background in IT, however, lost some knowledge as I chose another study. What I did so far:

1. Connected the printer through USB in the old XP machine
2. Installed the printer with the driver
3. At this point, everything works locally
4. Went to Printers and Faxes, right mouse click on the printer, properties, sharing, shared the printer.
5. At that point, I was able to connect to the printer and print from any device in my network

6. Went to the tab ports > Add port > standard TCP/IP port > filled in the IP of the print server (that's the correct IP, right?) > on the next screen I clicked "custom", left it like it was (RAW protocol, port 9100), SNMP not enabled. > finish

7. Lastly, I went to my router, portforwarded the port 9100 both UDP and TCP.

(Also gave the printserver a static IP)

I am pretty sure I am missing something, but am not sure what.

hehe. I realize how bad of an idea this is. However, this would be more for learning purposes, really. It's not like I would need to print from anywhere around the world. I will give Google Cloudprint a try, thanks.

Note: If you would still like to post the procedure to do the unsafe -- feel free to do so.
