I'm new to PC's and I'm wondering what each(i3/i5/i7) is used for. Like say in some cases, would it be better to have an i3 over an i5? Or an i5 over an i7?

I'd really just love to know the general purpose of each and what each excels in.
Just things like that would be very helpful! THANK YOU. :D

Solution
i3 has 2 cores plus 2 threads (hyper threading). The i5 has four cores. The i7 is also hyper threaded and has 4 cores/4 threads. For general use and gaming, an i3 or i5 will work for most people. The i5 will have a stronger performance in multi threaded applications than the i3. For those doing very CPU intensive tasks, an i7 is recommended because of the 8 threads. This would include thing like photo video/editing, CAD, etc.
