You need to look at total cost of mobo+cpu+ram as I suspect that the althlon needs a higher voltage ram which is getting rarer, I think that AMD mobo's are slightly more expensive too. So pull together two packages and then see what you think.
Imo I'd go for the G3258, still remains one of the best dual core options with amazing overclock-ability.
if you're not into OCing though, go with the AMD, bit more expensive, but not worth getting the pentium unless you're overclocking.

I was trying to find benches to compare them, I suspect it's 50:50 as to which one you'd choose, hence total costs are important and not just CPU costs.
