Computer randomly shuts down.

My computer will randomly shut down ager 5 to 10 minutes.

PC specs:

AMD Phenom II X6 1100T BE
Raijintek Pallas Black CPU cooler
Artic MX-4 thermal paste
Gigabyte M68MT-S2P
8gb dual channel 1333 MHz ram
MSI Gaming GTX 970 100 ME
SanDisk Ultra II 480gb SSD
Corsair HX850i 80+ Platinum
Sound Blaster Audigy SE Sound Card
reg disc r/w
LG blu ray r/w

From a cold start the new CPU fan does not always turn on right away, so the CPU fan fail warning was going off. I disabled that because the CPU fan works properly.

Problem persisted.

Download cosair link for new PSU. Problem extened to 20-30 minutes before shutdown.

PC will immediately restart after no warning hard shut down.

Could this have something to do with the "Corsair Link" program? I know the PSU fan only turns on when it needs to, so is it possible my mobo detects that the PSU fan is off, but can't put together that it's off because it doesn't need to be on yet and shuts down?

Please help!

Solution
Well-- it looks like it is less likely to be a heat issue if the heat really stays around that range.
Other than the PSU swap-- you may wan to have a look the "Event Viewer" (found in Control Panel) logs in windows to see what it recorded around the shutdown time.

What version of windows are you running?
lf you are on win 7, turning hybrid sleep off may fix this problem-- http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproperf/thread/f3339d0f-d115-42c4-b5c7-7b4897315956

It really sounds like an issue with the Motherboard or the PSU-- do you have an extra PSU you can try swapping out with and see if the problem remains then you would know it's not the PSU for sure and is either the MB or another component connected to it. Try to isolate the issue by only powering the MB and ruling out other components.

I know there were issues with the Corsair ax860i spontaneously shutting down-- you may want to check on the corsair forum. End the end-- you may need to RMA the PSU...

Good luck!

I'm running windows 10, upgraded from Windows 7.

Now the PC has been running for 30+ mins and no shut down...this is making me insane! If it keeps shutting down I will put my old PSU in and see what happens.

Does it fully shut down or, is it resetting?
Also, do you know the CPU temp around the time of failure? If the temp is high, the MB may be shutting it down to protect the CPU from overheating.

It fully shuts down.

So far the maximum the CPU temp has reached with the new cooler and paste is 32 degrees C. That's because I stood in front of the case blocking airflow in my troubleshooting. Normally it idles at 25 degrees C.

Here is a snip of the corsair link program after 30+ mins of running.

Alright so I left my pc running for say 5 minutes and when I came back it was off. I am starting to think it shuts down after not detecting mouse activity for 5 minutes. Where is there an option to change this?

ok-- I would suggest you do the following to narrow the field down a little.

Reboot the PC and then enter the CMOS setup (BIOS) and let the machine sit without touching the mouse or keyboard for the longest period of time you have gone without it shutting down on you.

If it does shut down it rules out the OS being involved.
