Two routers bridged wirelessly vs usb wifi adapter for gaming desktop

I live in an apt and can't run an ethernet cable all the way to my room, so plz no suggestions for that. For years, my Netgear n600 wireless adapter was fine and I got good speeds on my wifi, but last night it decided to croak and get ~1mb/s tops for its download speed when my bro wired got 61mb/s (still a far cry from the advertised 100mb/s down our ISP claims...)

I plugged in a cheapo TP Link small mini usb wifi adapter and got 24mb/s down last night, changed it to a slightly lower position and I got 34.49mb/s down and 9.71mb/s up...but the ping was 73ms

now, my question is, if I bought another router and hooked my desktop to it wired with ethernet, THEN connected the router in my room to the router downstairs, would THAT be better than your typical usb wifi adapter?

I'm not personally sure. I've never setup a dual router setup in my life, always just use wifi. If it's going to cost too much money or be too much trouble I'll probably just snag a Netgear n600 wifi adapter cheap online or something for a couple more years of use.

My router is the Netgear n300 wireless N.....last year I bought the 19.99 TP link wireless N 300mb/s #1 rated router on amazon, but it literally died out of nowhere....this Netgear n300 has been really good to me so far. Although it doesn't have an external antenna.....

also IS THERE, a better wireless usb adapter than the n600 netgear one? For wifi I got VERY respectable speeds on it over the years.

Here is my current router: http://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-Wireless-Router-N300-WNR2000/dp/B001AZP8EW

current cheap TP Link with bleh speeds: http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-WN723N-Wireless-Adapter-150Mbps/dp/B004UBU5S2

OLD netgear n600 that died, but got GOOD speeds on wifi for years: http://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-N600-Wireless-Dual-Adapter/dp/B00BV85WJY

maybe it got good speeds due to these specs other cheap USB wifi adapters don't have?
"NETGEAR Universal Wi-Fi Range Extender
Amped Wireless High Power Outdoor 8 dBi Omni-Dire
Amped Wireless High Power Outdoor 14 dBi Directio
Amped Wireless Premium Outdoor 25 Antenna Extens
NETGEAR WIFI Booster for Mobile Devices"

would a usb wireless adapter that has actual antenna(s) be better than the netgear n600 usb adapter? For example this TP Link with "high gain" antenna? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002SZEOLG/

Powerline kits have improved vastly in recent years. Have you tried one of them?

Router to router setup would probably be better then usb sticks on account of the larger more powerful antenna. But probabaly no better then a good internal wifi card . But this is just a guess on my part.

I'm thinking of saying screw it and buying a huge long ethernet cable and ducktaping it to the ceiling all the way to my room lol.....because I really doubt the apt manager would be cool with drilling through the living room up to my room to run the cable (a very old technologically illiterate manager)
